The Charlie and Max story
On July 26th, we discovered that there were two scared herding dogs under our travel trailer. They were tucked in the back corner and were very scared and timid. I posted them on Facebook hoping to find their owners, but no one came forward. They weren’t chipped or neutered, so we assumed that they were dumped or abandoned.
We have a small dog and a cat, so I thought at the time that it would be best to rehome them. I reached out to Four Corners Animal League for assistance, and Pennie Wardlow came out right away to check out the dogs and see what they could do to help.
Pennie and Maria Grazia Selzer were amazing. They loaned us humane animal traps to catch the dogs and arranged for them to be neutered and vaccinated. They also provided us with lots of helpful information on ways to work with dogs prior to rehoming them.
One dog, Max, was a little more outgoing, but it took over two months before we could pet the other dog, Charlie.
Fast forward four months, and we added two amazing dogs to our family. They are the most loyal, loving dogs. They are happy boys, excited to start each day. They get along great with our dog, cat, and even our cows.
In fact, they are very calm around our cows, and one day a few cows did get out. Max’s herding instincts kicked in, and he helped us get the cows back into the corral.
Without the help of Pennie and Maria, we would have never known what a rewarding experience it is to be the owner of a rescue dog. We honestly couldn’t have done it without the help and support of Four Corners Animal League.
